One day trip to Sangam-Mekedatu, Karnataka

After hectic office work,  we, the bunch of friends decided to go for one day bike ride around Bangalore. After doing so much brain storming we decided to visit “Sangam-Mekedaatu” .  On Saturday  28th June 2014 in the morning  at around 7:30 AM, we started our journey to Mekedatu  from bellandur Central mall via Niece road(Toll Charges Rs 23 for Bike)  we hit the Kanakpura Road. Sangam-Mekedaatu is around 90 Km from Bangalore and roads are awesome. We in fact enjoyed the bike ride more rather than the site.  We stayed for around 20-30 minutes next to the DayaNand Sagar College for tea and break fast at kanakpura road.

From here we continued towards the Kanakapura and after driving 20-25 KM, we visited the Place called Pyramid valley (1.5 -2KM from the main road on the left side while going from Bangalore )which is the must place to visit around Bangalore. I loved the place. In late seventies, I remember reading the “Secret power of Pyramids,” and had experimented with vegetables and so on and was convinced then and now I really sat under a pyramid.

Past meditation, We are led through to walk by a bookstore full of gadgets, paranormal, spiritual, self-help books etc., from around the world. The experience is unique and resulted in a charged state, clear mind .

After spending around 1 hour, we again started our journey to Sangam-Mekedatu. On the way we stopped frequently to enjoy scenic views and  met with some amassing farmers around the roads.

After driving for around 1 hour (56KM) We reached to Sangam river. After reaching this place all our excited got disappeared.  Nothing much to see here. Nothing is there to enjoy except the dirty sungam water….!! I will not recommend to visit here. Aprt from fish nothing much you will get to eat.! Just to cross the river , people will charge Rs 40 and after that just for 2.5 KM again the bus charge is Rs 100(up and down)—> Looting like anything.

So we decided to go by walk after crossing the river. After 45 minutes of trekking , we finally reached the place called Mekedatu. Its good but very much risky as well. It might seem very scenic and adventurous initially in pictures, but it is a death trap in disguise. There are no safety measures like barricades, life guards, adequate warning signs by tourism authorities. Its treacherous and rocky. One slip on the rocks and you may lose your or your loved one’s life!

The trip had exhausted us & the moment i stepped in my home i was lying on my bed snoring. The Roads were excellent for the entire stretch. Only problem was at kanakpura were road widening was happening.Apart from that the entire stretch was laid with beautiful roads.

Hope this blog will be useful for your weekend plans.

Cheers..!!
